This is a great alternative to tracing bodies during all about me week

Students decorate the head, shirt and pants each at a different center and then put them together at the end. The students LOVED making these.

S is for Spider

This week we are learning about spiders and bats

Books we read:

Literacy Center: We made an Itsy Bitsy Spider book. The students decorated the pages. This activity took two days.

This is the back of the book. This is our nursery rhyme this month.

The cover, we used a spider ring and a bendable straw for the spout.

For this activity we rolled a marble dipped in white paint inside a large box lid. We taped the black paper down first and added a spider at the end.

Bats!

We traced hands the first day and put everything together the second day.

We painted the small paper plates the first day and added legs, eyes and mouths the second day.

P is for Pumpkin

Books we read:

Math Center

Bury plastic halloween items in sensory table. Have students count the objects as they place them in a plastic pumpkin.
Literacy Center
Students glue the letters of their name on a pumpkin.
Art Center
Paint with mini pumpkins. Cut mini pumpkins, clean out the centers and paint on butcher paper with pumpkins.
Fine Motor Center:
Make jack-o-lantern faces on felt pumpkins.
Art Center
Puff paint pumpkins. Mix equal parts white glue and shaving cream. Color glue with food coloring. Whisk with a wire wisk and add green curled ribbon and a stem.

F is for FALL!!

Book: Fall Leaves Fall

We are going to the pumpkin patch this week so we are only focusing on Fall for one day. We were able to include a lot of fun activities.

Counting Leaves:

Roll the dice and have the students count the dots. Have them pick the corresponding number of leaves and count them as they place them in a pile, bag etc.

Leaves on the first letter of their name. We cut out small leaves (die cut or cricut) and they glued them onto the first letter of their name. I decided to add the rest of their name and put the names on the classroom door.

Leaf Press:

Materials needed:

real leaves in red, orange and yellow

Packing tape

Have the students place the leaves on the sticky side of the packing tape. Place another piece on top and send home to put in the window or use to decorate classroom bulletin boards as borders.

Fingerprint trees: We used colored ink pads and brown crayons to make these beautiful works of art!

Week 3: Red, Yellow and Blue

Rhyme: Humpty Dumpty (We are working on this rhyme all month)

Dressing up during music time. Humpty, The Horse and The Kings Man

For the literacy center we pre made crayons with each students name on it and cut it into a puzzle. The students had to put the puzzle together and then got to practice taping it together. This was their favorite part.

For science we placed white daisies in water. We added red, yellow and blue food coloring and predicted what would happen.

Here is the flowers the next day when they had started to change colors.

We made an "All about our Class" book. Each child completed this page with the help from a teacher in small groups. We took a picture of them wearing their crayon crown and added it in the corner. I am going to laminate this and make it a book to put in our class library.

At the math center we sorted and counted color bears.

I gave each student a paper with their name written on it in either red, yellow or blue. At the writing center they could choose from red, yellow or blue markers to write and decorate their name.

Week 2: All About ME

We traced our bodies, decorated the clothes and made paper plate faces!

The students asked their friends what color their eyes were and picked the hair color they wanted.
We also traced their hands and added them to the bodies

Here are the paper plate faces. In the past I have used giant google eyes which look GREAT!!! I was just out this year.

We measured how tall each student was using real apples and then the students helped the teachers make this comic strip bubble to put over their head. They loved measuring themselves with apples. I think we will do pumpkins next month.

Week One: Cars and Trucks

Start Your Engines: It's Time For Preschool!

Paint a car or truck. Use oversized art paper. Draw a rectangle on the paper and make students paint just the rectangle. Then I asked if they wanted a car or truck and I painted the window part. I let the students paint the wheels and add as much glitter as the wanted to make their cars 'shiny'.

I got the car picture out of The Mailbox. We enlarged it and copied it on colored paper. We allowed the students to decorate with colored pasta, buttons, foam shapes, sequins and of course my favorite medium...glitter!!

We talked about what shapes made up a car and then I let the students paste pre-cut shapes to their hearts content. I asked them to tell me about their car and I wrote down exactly what they said. Here are some of my favorites:
"Mine is a recycling truck"
"Big Car Crash"
"My Clown car"
"Barbie Car"
"Mine is big. The biggest."
"Monster TRUCK!!"

We also matched trucks and trailers that had letters on them for the literacy center.
We counted and patterned mini cars for the math center.
